“BC Hop Fest: A Fresh Beer Celebration” Paused for 2019 Pending More Support
We are reluctantly suspending BC Hop Fest for 2019 given ongoing challenges with government policy, nominal local brewery support, and regulatory issues with the Provincial Agricultural Land Commission and the City of Abbotsford.
Even if the regulatory permit challenges could be addressed quickly, it’s now too late in the season to stage the festival in 2019.
We will miss hosting BC Hop Fest in 2019 and know this is disappointing but we’re taking a pause this year. We want to ensure that, if the festival returns next year as we hope, it truly profiles and showcases locally grown B.C. hops and features craft beers brewed year-round to celebrate this important local crop.
We think B.C. beer lovers expect and deserve to enjoy local hops when they support local breweries. BC Hop Company and our hop farmers create sustainable local jobs, support our local economy and community and grow hops that help create some exceptional 100% local B.C. craft beers. There are now only about 20 hop farmers in B.C., down from over 30 just a year ago. B.C. hop farmers provide local jobs and contribute to the local economy directly and indirectly.
We hope you’ll support us in encouraging local breweries and government to invest in the future success of local hop farmers in the coming months so we can re-introduce a bigger and better BC Hop Fest in 2020. Thanks for your ongoing support. We hope to see you next year.
